Ashes of Tomorrow
A tale of stolen faith, divine fire, and the fragile hope of rebirth.
In the highlands of Vaelgar, nestled between wind-carved cliffs and misted pine forests, lies the village of Emberhold—a quiet, pious settlement devoted to Aetheris, the Light Eternal. For generations, they have protected a single, radiant phoenix egg, passed down through the centuries, sealed within the Sanctum of Flame beneath the village shrine.
The villagers believe the egg is a gift from Aetheris himself, the last ember of the phoenix who once lit the skies in the Age of Dawnfire. Prophecy holds that in the year of twin eclipses, the phoenix shall return, reborn in fire, bringing with it an era of renewal and light. That year is now.
But two nights ago, the egg was stolen.
The protective flames surrounding the sanctum dimmed. The shrine cracked. The village elder collapsed in the temple square, her final words before slipping into unconsciousness:
“If the egg is not returned before the eclipse… the light will fade forever.”
